Wordo uses the information and work from the projects listed on this page in order to offer this quality service.
All definitions come from Wiktionary, using Wiktionary editions for all languages that Wordo supports.
Wordo uses both kaikki.org (made with wiktextract) and custom extractors to import Wiktionary data.
Play buttons next to words play audio recordings that volunteers shared (under a free license or in the public domain) on Wikimedia Commons; the “recording from Wikimedia Commons” link under a word’s definition leads to the recording’s Wikimedia page, with its author and license.
These two open datasets are used to help Wordo show the most relevant information first:
Wiktionary’s text is under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license (CC BY-SA 4.0). Wordo adapts it (selecting, shortening, combining and laying out entries) and shares the result under the same license; the link under each word definition leads to the relevant Wiktionary page, where the History section lists the page’s authors.
As on Wiktionary, the definitions come with no guarantee of accuracy (see its general disclaimer); if you stumble on a mistake, feel free to follow the link under the word definition to correct the mistake directly on Wiktionary. Wordo updates its database on a regular basis, so corrections/additions will show up on Wordo eventually.
Wordo is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Wikimedia Foundation. · Back to Wordo
